元代承运海漕的船户有贩盐行劫、作风彪悍的群体特质,元末以来船户由于负担深重,以及内部的巨大分化,很多人为逃避服役亡入海岛,形成海寇,成为崛起海滨的方国珍政权完成武力积累的重要社会基础。

Boatmen who were engaged in sea transportation had the group characteristics of robbing and salt trafficking; what's more,they were valliant and rude. Some of them became pirates due to heavy burdens and other factors. They later became important social foundation for the rise of Fang Guozhen regime.
