Linguistic Features of the Headlines in English Web News and Their Translation

理解英语新闻标题必须了解其自身独有的语言特征,体现在词汇上主要是偏爱简单词、惯用缩略语、倾向口语化等;在语法上主要是现在时态和省略句式的普遍使用;修辞上则常用暗喻、押韵、典故、习语等修辞技巧。翻译英语新闻标题离不开对标题语言特征的了解,也离不开对翻译技巧的掌握,更离不开对时事新闻的关注和西方社会文化背景知识的积累。

The comprehension of headlines must be based on the understanding of their basic linguistic features,including the general use of simple words and shortened words,present tense and elliptical sentences,rhetorical skills such as metaphor,alliteration,allusion and idioms.The mastery of these linguistic features,together with the flexibility in adopting varied translation skills and the familiarity with background knowledge about western culture,contributes greatly to the translation of English news headlines.In this article,preliminary attempts are made to explore linguistic features and translation skills of headlines in English web news.
