The Translation of Newly Coined Words and Popular Words in Chinese and Japanese

中国和日本每年都出现大量的新语.流行语,在进行文化交流的时候,需要将这些新语.流行语翻译成各自国家的语言。翻译时,必须考虑新语.流行语产生的历史背景和其中包含的信息,可以采用汉字直译、音译、直译加注、意译、英语解释等灵活多变的方法。

A large number of popular and newly-coined words appear in both Chinese and Japanese each year, therefore, it is necessary to translate them in cross-cultural communication. In translating them, the historical background in which they are produced and the information they contain should be considered. The author of this paper suggests flexible ways and methods be used to translate them, such as, literal translation in Chinese characters transliteration, literal translation with notes, free translation, transliteration with English notes and so on.
