The Types of Metaphor and Translation Strategies

隐喻是一种在特定文化背景中产生的独特的语言表达方式。采用文献方法简介英语中的概念隐喻、陈腐和新鲜的隐喻、显露式和非显露式的隐喻、单层和多层隐喻等类型;探讨采用直译、归化、意译、异化、功能对等以及增补型等英汉翻译策略。这将有助于我们更好地理解英语隐喻的结构,对于恰当地使用汉译策略也有一定的意义。

Metaphor is one of special expressions originating from certain context. Types of metaphor have been put forward by different researchers. Based on literature reviews this paper discusses the types of metaphor： conceptual metaphor, obsolete and fresh metaphor, visible and invisible metaphor, one-aspect and multi-aspect metaphor and etc. And it is suggested that literal, domestication, free, functional equivalence, alienation, and supplementary over translation strategies be used in metaphor translation. The discussion will enhance our understanding of constructions of English metaphor and be of help to the choice of translation strategies.
