In The Owl Service Alan Garner creates a dramatic tension through the interweaving of myth and reality, the use of dialogue, and the employment of multiple points of view. All these strategies allow the reader to reach a fresh understanding of the spatial correlation between different worlds and the time cycle of past, present and future. This paper attempts to look into the fiction's narrative structure and examine how a mental space is constructed in order to generate its textual meaning.
