摘要根据其发展特点,英语标点符号的系统性演变,宜分成萌芽期、发展期、现代标点体系形成时期、现代标点体系成熟时期、和当代标点体系时期五个阶段。公元前5世纪至公元6世纪,是标点符号的萌芽期,出现了排版符、书写单位符、注音符、评阅符、和三标点体系等五个主要的符号体系。
