价层电子对互斥理论是无机化学的一个重要内容.通过该理论可以预测许多分子的结构,但也有很多例外情况.本文介绍的配体密堆积模型可以解释这些情况,是价层电子对互斥理论的一个重要补充.价层电子对互斥理论和配体密堆积模型有许多相似之处,不同之处是价层电子对互斥理论指出的是价层电子对和孤电子对的排斥作用,而配体密堆积模型强调的是配体-配体间的排斥作用,孤电子对视为拟配体.

The valence shell electron pair repulsion theory （VSEPR） is an important part of inorganic chemistry. Many geometries of molecules can be postulated, but there are many exceptions to VSEPR. While ligand close packing model （LCP） can be employed to interpret those exceptions. So LCP model can be regarded as the key supplement of VSEPR. The LCP model has many similarities to the VSEPR model except that it is expressed in terms of the concept of ligand --ligand repulsion instead of bond and lone pair repulsions. Lone pairs behave like pseudo--ligands.
