Robert Frost has played a significant role in the development of American literary history, especially in that of poetry. In the mainstream of free-verse writing launched by famous poet Walt Whitman, the form employed by Frost in his writing was under constant attack by his contemporary critics. In-depth reading of his poetry indicates that Frost was developing both the form and content of American poetry as the modern poly-literary criticism turned its current to a more reasonable phase.
