摘要
该文通过对地图在中国古代四部各类典籍中分布情况的研究，得出如下结论：在中国历史上，地图不仅是地理学家用以表达地理知识的一种方法，而且在社会的许多方面，包括经学研究、山川祭祀、历史探索、战争策划、疆界划分、河道治理、城市规划、聚落选址、矿山建设、商业活动、拓荒屯田、海外交流、名胜探游、文学解释、艺术欣赏、先人凭悼、吉凶预测、观念表达等方面都起到重要作用。
Through studying the distribution of maps in ancient books, this paper points out that maps not only served as tools for expressing geographical knowledge by Chinese geographers,but also played a vital role in many aspects of the ancient chinese society, including the study of confucian classics,the research of history,making a plan for battle, harnessing rivers,city planning, selecting sites for settlement, explaining literary works, commemorating ancestors, predicting good or bad fortune and giving expression to ideas.
