It was raining the day Zhao Xinxian went back to Nanfang Hospital in Guangzhou. Twenty-five years ago.Zhao was Head of the Pharmaceutical Department for this hospital.Later on. he founded the Nanfang Pharmaceutical Company,manufacturer of the popular stomach medicine'Sanjiu Weitai', and established the Sanjiu Medical & Pharmaceutical Company.Afterwards in 2004.with Sanjiu 10 billion dollars in debt.Zhao retired at age 63.only to be arrested one year later.In 2007,he was charged with'abuse of power'in the purchasing of shares of a Hong Kong company and sentenced to a term of one year and ten months. Tian Wenchang.Director of Jingdu Law Firm,personally handled the defense of Zhao Xinxian's not-guilty plea.Zhao argued that instead of violating the state's interest,the purchase he made had actually brought significant profit for state-owned assets.Thus,Zhao is expecting the judgment against him to be overturned one day.
