甘肃河西地区,自然条件优越,土质肥沃,祁连山冰雪融水丰富,引水灌溉条件好,是甘肃省的主要产粮区.但在民国时期,由于军阀割据,这一地区变成了驰名西北的主要鸦片种植、销售、消费地,究其原因是多方面的.其结果造成了农民破产,土地荒芜等极大的社会危害.

The Gansu Hexi area is the main grain-producing areas of Gansu Province where the natural condition is superior, the soil texture is fertile, the Qilianshan Mountains snow melt rich and the pilot irrigation condition is good. However, in the Republic of China time, this area became the famous of northwest＇s major opium plant, sale and consumption. The reasons are many-faceted.The result lead to the farmer bankruptcy, the land has gone out of cultivation and the enormous social harm.
