《英国病人》的出版奠定了加拿大作家迈克尔·翁达杰作为国际知名作家的地位。本文通过对《英国病人》书名、结构及水火意义的探讨,揭示作者正是通过象征巧妙地传达了不同群体在多元文化中和谐共处的艰难及其对前途的困惑与迷茫。
The English Patient is one of the masterworks of Michael Ondaatje. Focusing on the symbolic meaning of the title, structure, water and fire in this story, this paper tries to analyze the author＇s intention and emotion of writing this story. Through these symbols, Ondaatje weaves his perplexity in his writing and throws out a hint of the difficult harmony in multiculturalism.
