Baudelaire showed readers a realistic and mysterious capitalist society under the influence of mystical ideas. His ideas, theories, and language are affected by Swedenborg, Fourier and others. His works are full of non-rational, dreamlike, musical and mysterious beauty and convey an experience of modernity.
