A Tentative Analysis of Liu-kezhuang's State of Mind in Guilin

南宋诗人刘克庄在桂林时期思想极其复杂。一方面心绪十分低落,现实令他痛苦、失望,人生空漠、虚幻。另外国运动荡边境不安又让他深为焦虑。但美丽的外在风光让他倍觉欣喜,并萌发了逍遥世外的冲动,一定程度冲淡了现实的痛苦,使他从悲哀失落中挣扎解脱出来。

Liu Kezhuang had mixed feelings when he traveled in Guilin. On the one hand, he was in a very low mood feeling sad and disappointed because the reality made him find life empty and unreal. In addition, the turmoil of the nation put him in deep anxiety. But on the other hand, the beautiful seenery made him so delighted that he even had an impulse to escape from the reality, which to some degree lightened his sadness and released him out of depression.
