Solitary carnival:Bloom's tale of transformation

利奥波德.布卢姆是乔伊斯《尤利西斯》中的主人公。他是一个现代主义的"英雄",卑微龌龊、胆小怕事,任人欺辱,委曲求全,但同时又充满爱心,温情体贴,慷慨豁达。他是矛盾的统一体。但现代生活,不但不能化解矛盾,反而加剧了布卢姆人格的分裂。他最终只能在虚设的狂欢节中抚慰自己支离破碎、几近崩溃的自我。他通过狂欢节中变形的游戏来转换自己的身份,在千变万化中,讲述着人生的荒谬与怪诞,渴望着交流与沟通。而狂欢时的变形越精彩,现实中的布卢姆就越孤独。

Leopold Bloom is the hero in Joyce′s Ulysses.He is a modernistic ＂hero＂,humble,timid,humiliated and stooping to compromise,at the same time,he is also full of love,gentle and generous.He is the unit of contradiction.However,modern life can not solve the contradictions;on the contrary,it strengthens the personality split of Bloom.He has to tame the broken self in a false carnival in which he transforms his identity through transformation.He tells the preposterous life and longs for the communication in transformation.The more splendid the transformation is,the more solitary Bloom is.
