第三代移动通信是当前业内人士的热门话题，第三代移动通信的引入无疑会对２１世纪人类的生活、工作方式产生巨大影响。本文简略介绍了第三代移动通信系统及其标准制订情况，然后从电信运营的角度分析了中国联通为什么要关注第三代移动通信，以及如何迎接第三代移动通信的到来。

The third generation mobile communication is the hot topic of people in this field, for it is no doubt that the living and working style in the 21st century will be greatly influenced as the third generation mobile communication is implemented. In this paper the third generation mobile communication and its standardization progress are briefly introduced. It is also discussed why China Unicom should pay attention to the third generation mobile communication and how to prepare for its coming from an aspect of telecom operator.
