In this paper, firstly, the basic process of the sol gel method is introduced, and inorganic/organic hybrids are classified according to the chemical bonds between two phases in them. The preparation methods of the inorganic/organic hybrid by the sol gel process are described, and their applications are reviewed. In the end of the paper, the future development trends are forecasted.
