文章乃著名红学家周汝昌口述其研究《红楼梦》60年的历程、心得和体会,表明所谓红学四大分科的建立不是出于有意识的安排,更不是哗众取宠的巧立名目,而是学术研究本质的自然显现,是因势就势、顺理成章的结果。四大分科是彼此紧密相关的,总的目的都是为了揭示曹雪芹为何及如何创作《红楼梦》。重要内容包括胡适、顾随等先辈在周氏红学研究中所起的重要作用,周氏红学研究的轨迹和重要关节点,以及最近刚被翻译成英文在美国出版的《曹雪芹新传》的相关情况。

In the article the famous scholar on Dream of the Red Chamber ZHOU Ru-chang dictates his progress, self-experiences and thoughts in sixty years. It manifests that the four branches of the Redology are not artificially divided, and not concoctting various pretexts with grandstanding. It is the physical manifestation in Academic Research nature and the logical fruit. The four branches are more closely related to each other and their goals are to reveal why and how CAO Xue-qin created Dream of the Red Chamber.
