The Syntactic Interpretation of the Choice of Relative Words in the English Restrictive Relative Clause

运用wh-移位等句法理论对英语修饰性关系分句中的语言现象及其生成做一个统一的句法解释。认为修饰性关系分句中存在wh-移位,而且移位必须遵循空语类原则和领属条件等限制,跟一般的wh-问句具有相同的句法特征的和一致的句法解释。

This thesis, in the framework of wh - movement, offers a unified syntactic interpretation to the English restrictive relative clause in terms of linguistic facts especially the choice of relative words. With our analysis, we find that, there is wh - movement in the English restrictive relative clause, and the movement must satisfy the requirements of the empty category principle and adjacency condition, which has the same syntactic features and the unified syntactic interpretation as whquestions.
