Regional Cooperation in East Africa and the Prospect of China's Cooperation with the EAC

东非区域合作目前正呈现从关税同盟、共同市场到货币同盟,循序渐进的发展特点。为应对经济全球化的挑战,东非国家联合自强,充分发掘经济合作的互利性和互补性,使东非区域合作在新世纪出现加速发展的势头。东非共同体共同市场将打破殖民地时期遗留边界的条块分割,使东非国家在更大程度上依靠市场机制配置资源,有利于扩大市场容量,产生规模经济效益。东非共同体共同市场的建成,将使东非的消费者以低成本获得更大范围的商品与服务,并将为中国与东非共同体的合作开辟更加广阔的前景。

The regional cooperation in East Africa is undergoing a gradual and orderly development process from custom union to common market and further to monetary union. To face the challenges presented by the economic globalization, the East African nations have come closer together for strength and accelerated the development of regional cooperation in the new century. Once the common market of the EAC is established, it will provide extensive low cost goods and services for the consumers in the region and offer a broader prospect for China to further its cooperation with the regional body.
