老生代散文具有自觉记录历史、保存文献的意识,作家在抒写心中郁积的同时,也要为一个时代作证。他们不安于只记录历史,而且要求真、辨伪,有时明显与主流历史叙述呈现出差异。老生代散文内部也呈现若干差异,而这种多样性正是对先验历史本质的消解。老生代散文所表现出的历史理性精神可以看作是古老史官传统的当代回响。

The old essay writers in 80＇ of 20 century had a consciousness of recording history and saving the documents,when they created the nostalgia essays.While expressing their emotions,they also wanted to give evidence for an era.They not only recorded history,but also searched the truth and pointed the wrong.Sometimes what they said has shown obvious difference to the official historical record.There was some internal difference in the essays by old writers,which broke the transcendental nature of history.The essays shown the rationality in facing history,and it could be regard as a contemporary response of ancient tradition of recording history.
