Prehypertension is defined as systolic blood pressure of 120 to 139 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure of 80 to 89 mmHg.The incidence rate of prehypertension in adults is higher than that of individuals with normal blood pressure.Individuals with prehypertension usually have many risk factors for cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events, target organ damages of blood vessels, kidney and heart, and have higher cerebrovascular and cardiovascular risks compared with subjects with normal blood pressure(systolic 120~129mmHg or diastolic 80~84mmHg).The concept of prehypertension emphasizes the prevention of risk factors for cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events, and it is suggested health-promoting lifestyle modifications and drug interventions be given to these individuals.
