Criteria and Strategies of English Technical Neologism Translation

科学技术以惊人速度发展,科技产品遍及人们日常生活的每个角落。新的词汇每天都在涌现,值得广大译者关注。本文讨论了在英语科技新词翻译中存在诸多问题:一词多译,滥用音译等。因此急需规范科技新词翻译行为。目前还没有专门的科技新词翻译标准,现有的策略也局限于音译、直译和意译。这些策略太过笼统,参考价值不大。本文作者建立起一系列科技新词翻译的标准来,并且提出了系统化可操作的策略,为规范翻译行为创造了有利条件。

Science and technology are developing in an amazing high speed. New technical products invade into every comer of people＇s daily life. New technical terms are emerging everyday. This paper addresses many problems in the practice of technical neologism （TN） translation, such as mutinous translated terms, abuse of transliteration, etc. It is urgent to standardize the practices of TN translation. By now there is no TN specific translation criterion has been established; and current translation strategies are confined to literal translation, free translation and transliteration. These strategies are too general and the referential value is limited. In this article, the author established a series of criteria and specified and practical strategy system, which create favorable condition for standardizing the practices of TN translation.
