Objective: To investigate the effect of body mass index(BMI) of patients without polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) on the outcome of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer(IVF-ET) treatment. Methods: The pregnancy outcomes of 168 patients underwent IVF-ET treatment were analyzed according to different BMI ranges: BMI18.5 kg/m^2,18.5 kg/m^2≤BMI〈24 kg/m^2,and BMI≥24 kg/m^2.Results: The ampules of gonadotropin used were more in BMI≥24 kg/m^2 group as compared with the other two groups(P〈0.05),while no significant differences were found among the three groups in age, infertility years, basic levels of FSH,fertilization rate, and estradiol(E2) on the day of injecting human chorionic gonadotropin(hCG),implantation rate of embryo, clinic pregnancy rate and miscarriage rate. Conclusion: Overweight and obese patients, independent to PCOS,require a higher gonadotropin dose to achieve follicular maturation than normal weight patients.Overweight and obesity does not affect negative results of IVF-ET.
