The discovery of the remains of ancient cities in the Spring and Autumn Period in Mudu and many high-ranking tombs of the Spring and Autumn Period in Suzhou＇s West Hill has confirmed the legend recorded by Fang Zhi in the Song Dynasty, which said ＂the ancient city of Wu is beside Guanwa Palace＂. In that way it reveals the original feature of the capital city of Wu in the late Spring and Autumn Period： the ancient capital of Wu to the west, the new capital of Wu to the east, the Gusu Terrace within the middle of the outer wall of the city, which runs about 20 kilometers from east to west, fully demonstrating the power of the state as the lord of the region.
