Located in the west edge of Yangtze delta, Gehu Lake is a second largest fresh lake in South Jiangsu. The author state the basic features of Gehu Lake and explain the effect of Holocene ingression on Gehu lake. The changes of Gehu Lake have been showed on the basis of the distribution of Holocene sediments. According to the traces of paleontological and Man′s activities, the evolution and development of Gehu Lake fall into three stages:1.Incipient stage of about 10 000a~6 000a ago; 2.Development stage of about 6 000a~2 000a ago; 3.Formation stage of modern Gehu Lake since 2 000a. The origin of Gehu Lake is deduced as neotectonism blocked channel artificial reformation through the survey of strata, geology and tectonics as well as paleontology.
