介绍从模拟电视至数字电视的发展趋向，简述国际"活动图像专家组"对数字电视比特率压缩技术标准所做的工作。最后，分别概述MPEG－1和MPEG－2标准的特点。
The paper begins with pointing out the development trends from analog TV to digital TV. Then, it introduces the activities carried out by the International ' Moving Picture Expert Group', and briefly describes the technical features of two standards: MPEG-1 and MPEG-2.
