Effects of the Changes of Middle-class Women's Social Status on Suburbanization

18、19世纪,英国中产阶级妇女在社会和家庭地位上发生了重要的变化,在经济和人身上依附于男性家长,同时在家庭中承担着更大的道德教育责任。因此,中产阶级人士开始将家庭安置在远离工作场所即远离城市中心区的郊区,一方面让女性脱离生产活动而投入家庭当中,另一方面让她们远离城市生活的罪恶,在郊区住宅中建立起道德纯洁的世外桃源,由此推动了英国城市郊区化的进程。

In the 18th and 19th centuries,great changes took place in the English middle-class women＇s social status.While they depended heavily on men in terms of economy and personal relations,they shouldered more responsibilities of moral education in families.Some middle-class men began to settle down in suburbs far away from the city proper where they worked in the hope that their wives might devote themselves to their family,free themselves from the urban evils and build an ideal world with pure virtues and perfect peace.The practice promotes the suburbanization of the English cities.
