摘要
"五行相生"和"五行相克"是中国古代哲学概念,文化蕴涵丰富,翻译难度较大。长期以来其英译不少,但能再现其本质内涵的译文却不多。笔者力图探本究源,对这些术语进行一些批判性思考,并提出自己的见解和译文。
The term wuxing,an important concept in Chinese Philosophy,is culture-loaded and thus hard to translate into English.The same is true of the phrases wuxing xiangsheng and wuxing xiangke.To the author,the ‘authorized’ versions by some well-known dictionaries leave much to be desired,for the editors did not grasp the essence of the terms and so failed to reproduce the linguistic and cultural connotations.The author traces the term and phrases to their roots and views the translations critically before coming up with his own reference versions.
