A Contrastive Study of Ideational Function Between the English Versions of Tyranny Is Fiercer than a Tiger

概念功能是系统功能语言学所提出的语言三大元功能之一,通过及物性系统来体现。以《礼记》中的名篇《苛政猛于虎》的三个英译本作为讨论的语料,从功能语言学的角度特别是概念功能,来比较各个译本与原文的异同。

The ideational function is one of the three meta-functions put forward by systemic functional linguisties, which is always expressed by a transitivity system in language. Taking the three English versions of the well-known article Tyranny Is Fiercer than a Tiger selected from the book of Rites as the corpus under discussion, this paper aims to find out similarities and differences between the Chinese original and each of the three translated versions from the perspectives of functional linguistics in general and ideational function in particular.
