The Bell Jar, an autobiographical novel written by Sylvia Plath, is always the limelight of the critics for the suicidal inclination of the author and the high sense of feminine consciousness. However, viewed from a growing novel, the book makes us give a deep concern and sympathy over the post-war living plight of the American women. While analyzing the novel's narrative structure, the hero's archetypal experience by the help of archetypal criticism theory, the paper further explores the bewilderment, affliction and desperation experienced by Plath, a young woman heroine.
