The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is the first well-known work of Carson McCullers,an important writer in 1940s in America.Just like what the title shows,the novel fully reveals the mental crisis of modern people — loneliness which has been probed by many writers,however,Carson McCullers＇ description of loneliness is more penetrating and profound.In this novel,the author combines the concept of music with the structure,making the novel a fugue composed by words.And such special fugue-like structure further deepens the theme and contributes a lot to the success of the novel.
