In the Memoir of Lolita,Nabokov chooses Humbert,the rapist,as the narrator to confuse and test the reader,and at the same time to let Humbert expose himself in his dramatic beautification of himself.One the one hand,the author deliberately makes Humbert indulged in the happiness and sorrow of his past,and mixes his narrating ＂I＂ and experiencing ＂I＂,thus giving the author an impression that Humbert has gained the moral sublimation by writing his so-called penitence.On the other,by making Humbert shift between the first person and the third person in his own narration,the author reveals the protagonist＇s narcissism and schizophrenia,thus offering the reader a chance to see through Humbert＇s deception and to interpret the memoir independently.
