M.Bulgakov is one of the most important writers in the twentieth century of the Soviet Union.And one of his representative novels is The White Guard created in the 1920s.This novel has not only inherited the epic literary tradition of Europe and the grand narrating practice of Russia,but also combined the artistic techniques of modernism.It had broken the traditional linear spatial-temporal structure through the artistic techniques,such as dreams,symbols,the transform of time and space.It has extends the expressive space of literature from the concerned location to the past,present and future.The combination of tradition and modernism has truly made the novel be a magnificent work transcending that specific era.
