There was a character 'Ju ' in the Yin and Zhou oracle bone inscriptions. Its structure seems like two raising hands with something holding and the characterJu was normally used as elan's name or place name. The oracle bone inscriptions reflect that the Ju clan was occasionally assigned to do punitive expeditions on behalf of the Shang Kings. After King Wu defeated the Shang, the Shangpeople were separately controlled. TheJu clan was then forced to shift away into other fendal states and was gradually merged with other ethnic groups.
