The Chinese titles to forefathers are deeply rooted in the culture and history, which is to some extent embodied in Western Zhou inscriptions and other documents. The newlydiscovered West-Zhou bronze wares with the lengthy inscriptions provide new research sources for study of the titles to forefathers and clan members in the family generational hierarchy. This article puts more emphasis on Gaozu (first ancestors) and Yazu (second ancestors), etc. in Western Zhou inscriptions by comparative studies of oracles, historical data and other related materials.
