Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is an important member of signal transducers and activators of transcription (STATs) family. It affects series of genes' transcription and expression, and also plays an important role in cell proliferation, differentiation, aging and apoptosis. Researches found that corresponding proteins induced by persistent activation of STAT3 were highly expressed in variety of human tumor cells. These proteins promote the genesis, development, invasion and metastasis of tumor, also inhibit the apoptosis of tumor cell. Active STAT3 (p-STAT3) is closely related with the genesis, development and malignant behavior of thyroid carcinoma, and it is expected to be a new target for treatment of thyroid carcinoma.
