Based on the studies of predecessors and our previous work, a simple easy and universal method, the sign Function Matrix method (SFM), has been developed for autodiscrimination of the stable univariant curves about an invariant point. The method is valid for variant thermodynamic phase diagrams without any restriction on dimensions. The following expression serves as its thermodynamic basis:dΔ rG m(i)=[Δ rG m(i)/Xq] X C dXq (dX C=0;c=1,2,…;c≠q)whrere Xq is any intensive thermodynamic variable. By using the products of sign function values of stoichiometric numbers of every phase or species in each reaction multiplied by the sign function value of the relative [Δ rG m(i)/Xq] X C to construct a matrix LL the discrimination of the stable univariant curves can be easily made according to the signs of the elements in LL .
