摘要
In the Neolithic period, the northern, eastern and southern Taihu region was surrounded by hydraulic systems; while its western part was blocked by stretching hilly areas. Such relatively circumscribed environment weakened the influences from outside on the prehistoric Taihu region, and accelerated the integration of local regional societies by maintaining their cultural identity. Moreover, the core area of Taihu region where the Liangzhu settlements clusters were located is also semi-circumscribed. The spatial pattern of double circumscriptions might have had an important effect on the evolutionary process of Liangzhu society.
