With recent developments in the field of Positive Psychology, the concept of "forgiveness" has increasingly be come a topic of interest for psychologists. Forgiveness Therapy was developed as a part of Western Clinical Psychology as a response for those who have suffered psychological damage at the hands of others, and current research points to its suc cess in Western countries. However, research shows that forgiveness is a psychological phenomenon restricted by culture. Therefore, the application of such a therapy in China demands additional consideration of the local cultural background. This article provides a basic introduction to how Forgiveness Therapy is practiced in Western nations, and then goes on to compare and contrast cultural differences between China and the West. Through this cross--cultural examination, a China --specific version of Forgiveness Therapy is formed and put forward.
