Ding Ling experienced a geographical migration and life in exile in that she suffered from confusion and anxiety in thought, emotion and identity confirmation from Shanghai to Yan＇an. By analyzing and interpreting Ding Ling＇s early works in liberated areas, one can discern that such confusion and anxiety arise from the conflict between the the May 4th enlightenment thought and the political functions of the war, which is typical among contemporary intellectuals faced with similar problems and confusion.
