《民主与科学》是张西曼于1945年1月,联合爱国知识分子所创办的一份杂志。所载文章针砭时弊,慷慨激昂,政治论文注重民主宪政,反对独裁内战;科学论文提倡科技兴国,注重国民生计。本文以《民主与科学》为中心,在全面解读张西曼在《民主与科学》所发表的所有文章的基础上,结合张西曼在此期间的政治活动,对张西曼在此期间的思想倾向做一简要评论。

＂Democracy and Science＂ was a magazine published in January 1945, created by Zhang Ximan and his colleagues of patriots; the articles in which, were critical to the current events. The political essays were preaching democratical and institutional politics and were against the plutocracy and civil wars, while the scientific ones were about public interests and were aiming at thriving the country with science. This essay tries to comment the idea inclination of Zhang embodied in his articles carried in the magazine of ＂Democracy and Science＂ with the considering of his political activities at the corresponding time.
