摘要
委婉语是用令人愉快或无刺激的词语来替代恼人的或引起不快联想的词语,即通过语言系统中的语法修辞手段来表达具有委婉功能的语言现象,也是一种文化现象。从三个方面探讨英语委婉语的语用功能即礼貌功能、求雅避俗以及利己欺骗功能,旨在突出委婉语在日常交际中发挥着重要的作用。
Euphemism is the using of pleasant and inoffensive words or expressions to substitute the annoying and unpleasant ones.The using of euphemism in grammatical rhetoric way is not only a linguistic phenomenon but also a cultural one.This article is trying to point out the key functions through its pragmatic functions by putting forward the functions of politeness,pursuing the grace and cheating the public.
