加里·斯奈德是美国第一个将荒野奉若神明的诗人。他透过对生命世界的重新审视,试图用他的诗作改写我们早已习以为常的观念,如人类中心主义的文化观、人与自然关系、荒野象征等。他用意境深远的诗歌唤醒人类在功利主义驱动下沦为征服自然的工具的麻木意识,并重新寻找在工业文明中丢失的天人合一的田园理想。

Gary Snyder is the first American poet who worships the wilderness as deity. He makes every effort to rewrite our traditional concepts, such as the cultural value of anthropocentricism, the relationship between man and nature, the symbol of wilderness. He hopes to awaken people’s awareness of environmental protection, and once again seeks the harmony between man and nature wich is lost in industrial civilization.
