Pre-existing Body Dissatisfaction Mediates the Effects of Idealized Beauty in Media on Women's Implicit Attitude Towards Body

采用阈下语义启动范式,探讨媒体理想身体意象对身体满意度不同的女大学生身体内隐态度的影响.结果表明:身体不满意者在模特背景下比在风景背景下对积极身体词反应显著更慢,而身体满意者在两种背景下对身体词的反应没有显著性差异.改变身体不满意女性的不良认知并提高身体满意水平,降低媒体理想身体意象的负面影响,对树立女大学生健康身体自我有积极作用.

This study uses subliminal semantic priming procedure to explore pre-existing body dissatisfaction as a mediator in the effects on women from idealized beauty in the media. The results show that fe male undergraduates with high body dissatisfaction who are exposed to idealized images of beautiful women respond Significantly more slowly to body positive words than those who are exposed to scenery pictures, and there are no significant differences in the female with low body dissatisfaction under the two condi tions. Therefore, it appears to be of positive significance for the formation of a healthy self image of the female to adjust the cognitive style of the female with body dissatisfaction and improve their body esteem and to reduce the negative effect of idealized beauty advocated in the media.
