The Choice of Organizing Mode of Foreign Banks in China

本文通过二元logit离散选择模型,以面临分行和子行选择的80家外资银行为样本,检验影响在华外资银行组织模式选择的因素。研究发现,影响外资银行改制的主要因素是该外资银行的国际化经营经验、在中国从事经营活动的时间、母国在华直接投资以及母国与中国的文化地理距离,而母行的规模及其组织模式偏好的影响不显著。本文据此对中国银行业监管者和中资银行提出了相关启示。

Using a sample of 80 foreign banks and a binary logit model, the paper examines the factors that influence the decision of organizing mode of foreign banks in China. The result shows that some major factors are the parent bank＇s experience in international operation, the number of years the foreign bank has a presence in China, foreign direct investment in China from the foreign bank＇s country of origin and the cultural and geographical distance between China and its home country, while the effects of the size of the parent bank and its preference of organizing mode are insignificant. Based on these results, suggestions are put forward to the regulatory authorities of Chinese banking industry and the domestic banks.
