Sister in Islam (SIS) is a famous Malaysian NGO which believes in Islamic Feminism and commits itself to ensure the justice and women rights in the framework of Islam. SIS figures out that Islam is a kind of religion which pursues justice and gender equality by reinterpreting the Koran. It raises the public awareness and influences the policy-making, law-making through propaganda and education, through submitting memorandum to the government, through issuing open letters and statements, etc. SIS also offers help to those Muslim women in a disadvantaged position in marriage by legal aid. SIS links Islam, democracy and human rights together to protecting women' s rights. It effectively challenges religious authority' s monopoly of explaining Islam, also effectively responses to the preaching of Islamic fundamentalism to women.
