In Chinese traditional art conception, mountains and waters are not simply landscapes. They are always the habitat of human beings and natural spirits. The mountains and waters paintings of Zhang Fengtang fulfill this spiritual intercourse. Zhang Fengtang's paintings are first based on his love of natural mountains and waters. This becomes his source of power to continuously create paintings and adjust the direction of his life, as well as the natural evidence for the spiritual level of his paintings. The result of this love is the 'purity' of life and art.
