Like a godfather, Italian architect Giovanni Michelucci from Toscana had witnessed the changes and transitions in Italian architecture history for almost half a century throughout his practices in this field. He started design in liberalism style with Pistoia-like features, then moved to designs with Italian Rationalism and Fascism, and eventually participated in the postwar rebuild of Florence, Italy. A century long life is more than enough for him to rethink and review. The San Giovanni Battista Church is an outstanding masterpiece of Giovanni Michelucci in his later years, which went beyond the boundary of the absolute rationalism at the time that the modernism was overwhelming across the world.
