The Way Topography Was Portrayed in a Ming Map of Dalian Region

本文解析的对象是明代《辽东志》里的金州山川地理图。通过"图"与"志"的比对,本文不仅在倡导一种更加贴近古代方志地图语境的历史化阅读方法,也在呼吁人们对方志地图呈现地貌的方式给予足够的重视。

The map in this essay refers specifically to an older map dated back to the 16th century of Dalian region. By critically analyzing this old map, this study questions the applicability of reading those historic maps in ancient Chinese gazetteers only as maps proper, in hoping to promote a more holistic approach to weave again the graphic representation of landscape with history and memory, thus, to aware of the political ideals with which Chinese map-makers often than not projected upon topography.
